Great stuff. Saw the link on the Problogger group project and decided to check it out. As a recent grad of Penn State University, and someone on the job hunt right now I can say that those 5 things are great advice.

You should post as a follow-up the top 5 signs of a bad company so these poor college kids don’t get stuck working at a company that doesn’t match them. The internship, project and job shadowing are all good ways to learn about a company before actually working there, but if they are looking cold they should know how to explore what they want in a company and know how to ask questions/make observations during the interview process. Unfortunately there are more bad companies out there than good.

I like your suggestion on the Top 5 signs of a bad company.
However I do disagree with you on the assumption that there are more bad companies than good ones. In my opinion we here more about the bad companies which makes it seem like there are more bad ones than good ones.
There will always be bad people and bad companies in the world you can’t do anything about that.
